Genre: Strategy
Details:

Advance WarsTM, the award-winning turn-based strategy game, makes its debut on the Nintendo DS. Players lead their new Commanding Officers to fend off the Black Hole Army’s latest invasion. With massive battles that sweep across both of the DS screens, Advance Wars: Dual Strike will change the face of war forever.

  • Use the top screen for quick-reference battle intel, or take control in battles that rage across both screens. Command a fleet of fighters high in the skies while troops clash with the enemy on the ground far below.
  • New COs, new Tag-Team battles: Choose from new Commanding Officers, and combine their powers for incredible attacks that can turn the tide of battles.
  • Real-time Combat mode: For a battle with a twist, players lead soldiers into a fast-paced, action-oriented battle against a storm of enemies.
  • Easy-to-use map editor: Just grab a stylus and draw maps right on the touch screen, then send the maps to friends wirelessly.

Game Storyline: On the heels of its last defeat, the nefarious Black Hole Army has fallen under the control of a deadly new commanding officer. He has sent its new COs to attack the nations of Wars World once again, and it’s up to the allied armies of Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet and Green Earth to put an end to Black Hole once and for all.

Characters: All of the COs from the first two Advance Wars games are here, as well as nine new characters. These include Orange Star’s Rachel and Jake, Blue Moon’s Sasha, Yellow Comet’s Javier, Green Earth’s Grimm and the Black Hole Army’s Koal, Jugger, Kindle and Von Bolt. Each army receives new COs, each with unique CO powers.

How to progress through the game: Advance Wars: Dual Strike contains several game modes:

  • In Campaign mode, players fight back against the Black Hole Army’s invasion.
  • Vs. Mode offers dozens of new battle maps, as well as tons of favorite maps from the previous two Advance Wars games. Players can play both normal and DS battles, both single and multiplayer, providing endless replay potential.
  • Combat mode gives players fast-paced action: Instead of turn-based battles with large armies, players fight in real time while controlling a single unit.

Both Combat and Free Battle are available for multiplayer matches. Using DS Download Play, combat can be played wirelessly by up to eight people using a single game card.

There are two kinds of battles: Normal and DS Battle.

  • In normal battles, the battle map appears on the touch screen, and the top screen displays information about players’ units and enemies. Players can check their units’ strengths, watch a missile’s trajectory or check the clock in timed matches.
  • In new DS Battles, players fight on both the top screen and the touch screen. Fight one battle on the ground and another battle in the sky, or direct two separate battles, providing support by sending units from one battle to the other. If the top-screen battle needs a boost, send a few tanks up to lend a hand.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Advance Wars: Dual Strike uses both screens: the touch screen for battles and the top screen for special information, from unit and terrain details to special conditions in each battle. In special DS Battles, players fight on the top screen as well, commanding both battles and redeploying units from one screen to the other. The Map Editor now uses the stylus, so that players can draw their maps right on the touch screen. Players now can trade their maps wirelessly too. Players also can use the stylus to give orders to their units; from moving to attacking, they control everything from the touch screen. Each time Commanding Officers win a battle, they gain experience – over time, they can learn new battle skills that increase their strengths or boost a unit’s abilities. There are more than 40 battle skills. Each of the COs has two separate special powers: a CO Power and a Super CO Power. These powers can freeze the battlefield, boost the attack range, rain bombs on enemies and much more. Now COs can team up for Dual Strike attacks with even more impressive results. New playable units include hulking aircraft carriers, invisible stealth fighters, devastating omni-missiles and insanely powerful megatanks.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow – ds

Title: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Category: ds

US Release Date: 20050929
UK Release Date: 2005-09-29
JP Release Date:
Developer: Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc
Publisher: Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH
ESRB: Teen
Genre: Action
Details:

Taking place a year after Aria of Sorrow, the game’s protagonist – Soma Cruz – finds himself at the center of a mysterious cult’s plan to resurrect their evil lord and master Dracula. To save himself and protect the lives of those he loves, Soma must infiltrate the enemy’s home base, a towering replica of Dracula’s castle that is teaming with monstrous creatures. Players’ abilities develop as they collect items and gather experience points by defeating a multitude of gruesome enemies.

In their quest to defeat enemies, players will utilize original gameplay concepts that leverage the Nintendo DS’ touch screen technology. One example is Dawn of Sorrow’s "Magic Seal" system. By using the stylus directly on the screen, players must connect a series of symbols in the proper order to unlock an enchanted opening and disperse their enemy’s magic into it when they are weakened. The touch screen technology will also be used to destroy "Crystal Blocks." This ability will allow players to access unreachable areas as well as eliminate obstacles. The Nintendo DS’ dual screens also allow game information to be readily displayed. During gameplay, the top screen of the Nintendo DS will display an environment map, as well as information on player status, enemy vulnerability, and acquired power-ups.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow introduces a multitude of new characters into the Castlevania lore. These characters include Celia Fortner, Dario Bossi, and Dmitrii Blinov. Celia is a shadow priest that exercises great magical power and is the founder of a mysterious cult that will stop at nothing to orchestrate the second coming of the "Evil Lord." Dario Bossi is one of Dracula’s potential successors. He has the ability to manipulate fire, a power he absorbed from Dracula during the time of his last resurrection. Dario’s fiery personality and impulsive tendencies push him to immediate action. Dmitrii Blinov is the other potential successor to Dracula’s rein. He has the power to duplicate magical powers and displays an outward impression of rashness and irresponsibility, but make no mistake, Dmitrii is prepared to take any measures necessary to accomplish his goals.

Also aiding players in their battle against dark forces are "Tactical Souls." Players can collect the souls of their fallen enemies to gain powerful new attacks and skills. There are numerous varieties of "Tactical Souls" that allow the player to use different power-ups against the deadliest of enemies. Examples of "Tactical Souls" are "Bullet Souls" and "Guardian Souls." "Bullet Souls" consume magic points while unleashing bursts of magic attacks. "Guardian Souls" consume magic as they create defensive shields or form "helper" demons that the player can control.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow takes advantage of the Nintendo DS’ wireless connection, letting players exchange and/or trade acquired souls to enhance their characters’ strength. An incredibly moving musical score, visually stunning graphics and imaginative special effects round out this uniquely innovative gaming experience.

US Release Date: 20050923
UK Release Date: 2005-09-23
JP Release Date:
Developer: Nintendo UK
Publisher: Nintendo UK
ESRB: Everyone
Genre: Puzzle
Details:

An evil planet named Meteo is sending storms of world-ending meteors across the galaxy, and only puzzle skills can stop them. As blocks rain down, use the stylus to align similar ones and launch them back into space.

  • Defend more than 30 planets, each with its own alien race, theme music, block style and gravitational laws.
  • Explore planets in Star Trip, challenge CPU players of any skill, play multiplayer, survive deluge mode or spend launched Meteos to unlock new planets and features.
  • Link wirelessly with up to three friends and have a war of the worlds as players select which planet to launch their Meteos toward. Team up, customize items or establish time or stock limits – players can play however they like.
  • Using DS Download Play, players can take on up to three friends with only one game card.

Game Storyline: An evil planet named Meteo has sent asteroid storms all over the galaxy. All planets are in peril, and each must align the falling meteors by similar group to launch them back into space and save their worlds.

Characters: Meteo (which looks like a giant, evil eye) and more than 30 alien races, each with a distinctive look and musical theme.

How to progress through the game: As blocks fall from above, players must align similar designs by groups of three or more to launch them back up. Players can move blocks only vertically (preferably with the stylus, although the game can be played with the plus control pad). Each planet has its own gravitational rules and block style, so as players unlock new ones, they must learn new skills. There are many modes, and in all of them players earn Meteos – anything launched off the top of the screen goes into a bank, and players can then spend them to unlock new planets, items, features and modes.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: There are an incredible number of modes, from Star Trip (progress from planet to planet) to wireless multiplayer to deluge mode, where the Meteos fall at a steadily increasing rate. Not only that, but almost every mode is customizable, allowing players to set the difficulty level of their opponents, time or stock limits, or even item sets. Items vary from vision-obscuring smokescreens to Meteos-destroying hammers. Besides an instantly addictive multiplayer mode, this game also features DS Download Play, allowing players to fight up to three friends with just one game card.
